About the Author

Hi! I'm Tayla and I'm an alcoholic!

No, not really. But whenever I have to introduce myself I get the urge to say that. I think it's from watching too many movies that involve AA meetings. Which is worrying in itself :P

Right. About me. I'm 5"2 (I think), my eyes are blue and my hair depends on when I last dyed it/whether I straightened it. Generally it's vaguely brown and almost always frizzy. I started at Rhodes in 2010, finished my BA, and am now studying a postgraduate LLB. I like 80s rock music, pizza at the Rat, and drinking wine while watching old SciFi movies. Sarcasm is my home language, although I know English, Afrikaans, basic French and basic Latin too. I can't dance to save my life unless I'm drunk, at which point I start believing that I dance like Ricky Martin. The female version, anyway. I play guitar very, very badly, I like Astros, playing squash and Patrick Lambie (not at the same time...on second thoughts, Astros and Patrick Lambie would be brilliant combination) and I strongly dislike judgemental people. I also have spatial and colour-graphemic synaesthesia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia - it's really cool :D ).

I like writing - novels, short stories, admittedly bad poetry - and originally planned on majoring in English, but after doing English 1 I was ready to shoot myself. Since then I rely on blog posts for my creative outlet.

One last thing: please bear in mind that these posts are not necessarily a true reflection of Grahamstown or of the university. They are a reflection of myself and my student years; not every student will have the same experiences or beliefs! Leave a comment on a post if you want to share your own Gtown, Rhodes or general university experiences :)
